On April 7, PowerSecure, a Southern Company sub, announced the acquisition of distributed power system service provider Power Pro-Tech Services.

According to PowerSecure, the transaction was intended to bolster the firm’s value proposition of providing customers greater control over their energy use by integrating PPT’s service capability.

PowerSecure stressed that PPT is industry’s largest independent service provider with an in-house technician force with expertise in the service of distributed power systems including generators, switchgear, solar inverters and fuel cells.

Sidney Hinton, Chief Executive Officer of PowerSecure remarked:

PPT has a strong history of providing outstanding service for distributed infrastructure assets across multiple technologies.  We are very excited to enhance our capability to optimize customer value from PowerSecure’s unique solutions.

According to PowerSecure, PPT’s customer base includes data centers, hospitals, telecommunications, cable, property management, retail, and other industries as well. The firm considers PPT well-positioned to support future expansion of the “behind the meter” energy solutions offered by PowerSecure.

Robert Byrne, Chief Executive Officer of PPT observed: “We are excited about joining the PowerSecure team.  Our service capabilities combined with PowerSecure’s distributed infrastructure offerings are a powerful combination, providing a comprehensive energy infrastructure solution. Having worked with PowerSecure over many years, we see tremendous opportunity in enhancing PowerSecure’s fully-integrated solutions.”

Under the terms of the agreement, PPT becomes a wholly-owned, indirect subsidiary of PowerSecure.
