On January 26, BlueRock Solar, a sub of BlueRock Energy, announced a joint venture with Renovus Solar on a new community solar project in Millport, New York for NYSEG delivery customers in the Southern Tier and Central New York.

According to the firms, the project will be completed in Spring 2017 and will produce enough energy to power approximately 80 residential units per year.

The partners emphasized that membership in the project will work in a “pay as you go” model whereby qualifying subscribers can sign up for a one-year contract with no credit check required. Contracts will be priced to save customers 10% on their utility bills.

Michael Francis, General Manager of BlueRock Solar remarked:

Community solar projects, such as this one, open the door to clean renewable energy for residents who may have otherwise been unable to take advantage. No longer is the population of renters, homeowners with an unsuitable roof, or those unable to afford a solar system shut out of the benefits of going solar. Instead of placing panels on individual roofs, residents share the power generated by the project, paying as they go, while enjoying energy cost reductions.
